Contexts & Dimensions (STEP)

n.

Pronunciation

/ˈkɑnˌtɛksts & dɪˈmɛnʃənz (stɛp)/

Acronym

Definition

In STEP, data can be grouped into views known as "Contexts", which are driven by metadata properties known as "Dimensions" and corresponding "Dimension Points" which further define "Dimensions".
For the example, a Dimension example is "Country", with Dimension Points of "USA", "UK" and "Germany". Another Dimension example is "Language", with Dimension Points of "English" and "German".

A STEP user can create a Context for USA by grouping the Dimension Points of "USA" for the Country Dimension and "English" for the Language Dimension Point. The resulting refined data set is the Context for USA.

A STEP user can create a Context for Germany by grouping the Dimension Points of "Germany" for the Country Dimension and "German" for the Language Dimension Point. The resulting refined data set is the Context for Germany.
