n.

Pronunciation

/hexadecimal/

Acronym

Definition

A code using 16 digits displayed in six places to represent numeric values. Commonly it is used to represent colors on computer screen displays for websites.

Using the digits 0-9 and letter A-F to represent the number 0-15, the hexadecimal system is used in place of the binary or decimal system where working in base sixteen can be more beneficial. When used to represent colors, the standard RRGGBB format means the first two digits represent the amount of red; the second two digits represent the amount of green; the final two digits represent the amount of blue.
