n.
Pronunciation
/ˈhaɪəˌrɑrki/
Acronym
Definition
An organizational structure or taxonomy utilizing consecutive levels of directly linked entities.
Hierarchy arranges entities into different ranks or levels. In Product Information Management, these entities consist of categories containing similar products. Products are classified to terminal categories with no levels directly beneath them. These categories are then linked directly to parent categories in the level above them and are known as child categories. Categories on the same level with the same parent category are known as siblings.
