1. A data set intended for integration into a different set of data.
2. The act of integrating data sets into a different set of data.

In Master Data Management, Import refers to external data sets and the act of incorporating those data sets into the existing data. Importing is considered a core functionality of an MDM system. Imports may need to be normalized, mapped, and filtered before adding to master data.
