Pronunciation

/ˈɪndɛks/

Acronym

Definition

1. A list of locations and entities on a website or in an application allowing users to see all the content and navigate to the specified entity.

2. An associative structure that allows for efficient search and retrieval on a database table. The index allows a search without having to access every row each time, in the same way an index in a book allows a user to easily find a keyword rather than searching each page.
