Inherited Attribute

n.

Pronunciation

/ɪnˈhɛrətɪd ˈætrəˌbjut/

Acronym

Definition

An attribute assigned and managed at a higher level of the hierarchy, and is passed down to all the categories in the levels below.

Attribute inheritance is a way to make managing attribute data and metadata simpler by limiting the number of places where the attribute needs to be managed. Inheritance should only be used when the attribute applies to all products in the sibling categories under the location that it is managed. Not all PIM systems can support attribute inheritance.
