Definition

Information that is pulled into a hierarchy from an outside source such as legacy, competitor, or third party data.

The act of finding the relevant parts of existing data sources and introducing them into the hierarchy in the correct format is referred to as mining. Mining attribute data provides a good starting point for building schema. Analyzing Mined Attribute data can provide valuable information about which attributes are commonly used and which have high quality data that can be leveraged going forward in the project.
