Over-granularizing

v.

Pronunciation

/ˈoʊvər-granularizing/

Acronym

Definition

The creating of an excess of product categories in attempt to capture differences in product types.

Adding excess nodes and levels to the hierarchy makes it more difficult to navigate for users. Over granularizing adds complexity to the hierarchy that is not desirable. Signs of over granularization are often low SKU counts or uneven SKU distribution in the terminal nodes.
