Primary Items

n.

Pronunciation

/ˈpraɪˌmɛri ˈaɪtəmz/

Acronym

Definition

The item to which another item serves as an accessory or complement.

Primary items are often considered when accessories are present in the hierarchy. For example, a cell phone category may have a node for cell phone models and another node for cell phone accessories. If [Cell Phone Models] and [Cell Phone Accessories] are the only children under [Cell Phones & Accessories], it may be worthwhile to group the accessories with the models (the primary items) since a node with only two children is not favored.
