Quarantine
n.
Pronunciation
/ˈkwɔrənˌtin/
Acronym
Definition
1. n -A section of a product hierarchy which is not displayed to customers and which houses products that do not have an appropriate home in the product categories in the hierarchy..
2. v - the act of isolating products which are currently unclassifiable in the current taxonomy.
The Quarantine is used during product classification portion of a PIM implementation. If it grows too large with a certain type of product, that is an indication that the hierarchy may need to change to accommodate that product type. Insufficient data can also lead to the need to place data in Quarantine. The goal should be to limit the amount of SKUs in the Quarantine to a minimum. SKUs in the Quarantine cannot be sold on the web since they will not be displayed in the product hierarchy. In addition, attributes cannot be assigned to these SKUs.
