Definition

The item input in web search or in database retrieval to request for information or navigation.

There are different types of search queries in the area of web search. A navigational query is a search for an exact website, for example entering “YouTube” into a search engine. An informational query is a search for broad information, such as ‘tea varieties’ or ‘Wisconsin’. A transactional query is a search for an item to buy, such as a product name or ‘plane tickets.’ Similarly, in database search the query is a request to return specific information from the table.
