Search Box Type-ahead
n.
Pronunciation
/sɜrʧ bɑks taɪp-əˈhɛd/
Acronym
Definition
Predictive text displaying suggested terms based on what the user has already typed into the search box.
Search Box Type-ahead can serve as helpful mini navigation to the user by providing several likely alternatives that will seem intuitive and easily reached. For example, on a grocery store website, typing in "Bottle" might bring up "Bottle Openers," "Plastic Bottles." and "Bottled Water" before it suggests "Bottle Rockets" which are not searched for nearly as often. Unlike autocomplete, Search Box Type-ahead tailors suggestions based on product data such as item name or category name as well as search log data.
