Short Label

n.

Pronunciation

/ʃɔrt ˈleɪbəl/

Acronym

Definition

A brief description of the group of products contained within a category for use with hierarchical context.

Short Labels provide a concise explanation of the products in a category. The context of the hierarchy provides greater detail to this label. Breadcrumbs utilize short labels, so repetitive information is omitted. For example, Short Labels of child nodes of [Hammers] could include [Claw], [Ball Pein], and [Sledge]. With the context of the hierarchy repeating "hammers" in the label would be redundant. When necessary, Long Labels are also given to categories for use out of the context of the hierarchy.
