String

n.

Pronunciation

/strɪŋ/

Definition

A data type consisting of text.

A string is a common data type useful for storing names and descriptions. Strings can include numbers (i.e., “123 ABC St.”), but should not be used solely for integers or other data types. Various tools and programming languages have different rules on how to format a string (often using quotation marks) for the system to recognize it as such.
