Suffix Deviators

"Ment" "ion" "ing"

n.

Pronunciation

/ˈsʌfɪks ˈdiviˌeɪtərz/

Acronym

Definition

A type of category label that ends in “ment”, “ion”, or ”ing” and tends towards generalization.

Ideally, all labels would be based on “isness” but more general concepts are common at high levels and can appear in terminal nodes as well. These labels can increase the number of items that can be categorized to the nodes, but at the potential cost of mutual exclusivity. For example, creating a [Polishing] node for polishing compound, pads, and cloths might avoid over granularity, but could create confusion on whether an item should be categorized under [Polishing] or [Microfiber Cloths].
