Tiered Product Data Model

Base-variant Data Model, Model-tiered Data Model, Product-item Model

n.

Pronunciation

/tird ˈprɑdəkt ˈdeɪtə ˈmɑdəl/

Acronym

Definition

A way of managing information on SKUs where very similar products are considered variations on the same item and managed together.

In a multi-tiered data model, a "High-Viz Safety Vest" would be the base product and have variants of S, M, L, XL, XXL as well as Yellow, Orange and Green. By combining all these permutations of the shirt into this Multi-Tiered Data Model, each combination of size and color vest can be managed on the "High-Viz Safety Vest" level.
