Unit of Measure

Unit

n.

Pronunciation

/ˈjunət ʌv ˈmɛʒər/

Acronym

UOM

Definition

A standard measurement of quantity applied to numerical values.

Units of Measure define the measurement system of numerical values for measures of dimension. The value for a can of soda’s <Size (oz.)> attribute will be {12}; the “(oz.)” in the attribute name indicates the unit of measure for the value {12}, as in a twelve ounce can of soda. In some cases, the unit of measure may be appended to the number as a string, which allows for multiple UoMs in a list of values. Using soda again as an example, the size attribute could be updated to <Size> to allow for values {12 oz.} and {2 L}.
