A group of individuals responsible for setting goals, establishing rules, and maintaining the processes related to data governance.

The Data Governance Council has greater authority over data governance decisions and actions than the Data Governance Committee, which serves mostly an advisory role. The council is responsible for:
Approving data standards and business rules outlined in the Data Governance Charter.
Approving the tools and resources used to achieve data governance goals.
Make decisions about data governance issues.
Assign responsibilities to data stewards on maintaining data governance and resolving issues.
Communicate data governance rules and decisions between relevant parties.
