Data Migration
v.
Pronunciation
/ˈdeɪtə maɪˈgreɪʃən/
Acronym
Definition
The process of moving data from its original source onto a PIM system.
The act of moving data involves loading the data, formatting it to the new system, standardizing the data and adding metadata. The new PIM system can then be used to manage the data. There are multiple approaches to moving data. If the data is moved all at once, data problems and system issues are more likely to occur. Moving data one department at a time or maintaining the old system until the data transfer is complete lowers chance of risks, however both of these migration approaches can be more costly.
