Decentralized Data Management

n.

Pronunciation

/dɪˈsɛntrəˌlaɪzd ˈdeɪtə ˈmænəʤmənt/

Acronym

Definition

A type of PIM team formed where data enrichment responsibilities are given to separate department within the organization.

There are a few ways PIM teams can be organized, and one way is decentralizing tasks to maintain and enrich the product data. For example, the procurement department may be held accountable for filling in missing data on product suppliers and inventory levels while the marketing department is responsible for uploading product descriptions and pictures. This model is more prevalent among production firms where several people are involved in product design.
