Dependent Entity
Weak Entity
n.
Pronunciation
/dɪˈpɛndənt ˈɛntəti/
Acronym
Definition
Data points or entities that may only exist or have certain values if a certain requirement is met by another entity.
In a many to many relationship, dependent entities are created to simplify data models. For example, many buildings may have many rooms, but each room can only be in one building. A data modelist would have to create several unique IDs in this instance. To simply, we can turn the room into a dependent entity to avoid the problem. Dependent entities are a powerful tool in organizing data and simplifying relationships.
