Inheritance Shielding

v.

Pronunciation

/ɪnˈhɛrətəns ˈʃildɪŋ/

Acronym

Definition

The prevention of particular child categories from inheriting an attribute from a parent category.

Occasionally attribute inheritance will be used, but will not apply to every category. In child categories, the inherited attribute metadata can be accessed and the inheritance function can be turned off. If a high proportion of child categories should not inherit from parent category attributes, inheritance should not be used.
