Multiple Homes
n.
Pronunciation
/ˈmʌltəpəl hoʊmz/
Acronym
Definition
A product is said to have multiple homes when there is more than one place that it can fit within a hierarchy.
If there are 2 or more categories in which an item could be interpreted to belong, then each of these categories is a potential ‘home’ for the item. This could lead to the same type of item being found in multiple places and having different attributes applied to it. Therefore, best practice is that each sku should have a single, primary home. To ameliorate a situation where items have multiple homes, cross-listing or sub-classing can be used. All potential cases of multiple homes should be noted in an issue log.
