Navigation Taxonomy

/ˈnævəˈgeɪʃən tækˈsɑːnəmi/

A system specifically designed to help a user find their way around a website’s contents.

Navigational Hierarchies are best designed by concentrating on the majority of the users and how they will think rather than trying to fix issues with edge cases. Category organization should be based on shopping habits and presented in a way that the information is not immediately overwhelming. Strategies for an intuitive navigational hierarchy include keeping category labels short, avoiding duplicate category names, and not providing too many categories at once. Visitors to the website will browse the hierarchy by using a left or top navigation bar.
