Search Redirect

/sɜrʧ ˌridəˈrɛkt/

A way to send users or search engines to a different URL than the one originally requested while preserving Search Engine Optimization.

Redirects can be useful for suggesting alternate items when products are discontinued. When a user tries to navigate to a Product Detail Page but the product is no longer sold, forwarding the user to a similar item can help make a sale. Redirects can be stored in a PIM system, therefore providing helpful information to eCommerce. If used correctly, redirects will retain the Search Engine Optimization and ease of navigation of the previous URL. However, if the second URL ultimately does not have similar content to the first one, both URLs will be ranked lower by the search engine.
